LUST and LUSTlab closes its doors after 20 years.
The Last Piece of the Puzzle
“When you have almost finished the puzzle, you discover that there is one small, lousy piece missing. This is the moment something basic is going to happen. Whether you start searching until you find the missing piece, or you throw away the puzzle altogether. Both options are a thousand times more interesting than the moment the puzzle is finished, because when that happens, there is nothing more. However, what you will remember — the thing that indelibly stays with you — is that puzzle with the hole: the part asking for interpretation.”
— LUST, 1995
After more than 20 years of extensive research and design, the moment has come for LUST and LUSTlab to lay the last piece of the puzzle. On September 1st, 2017 both LUST and LUSTlab will officially close their doors.
— Jeroen will start the new studio RNDR (at the same address) merging code and design to create interactive work.
— Thomas will continue as Head of the Graphic Design Department at ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem and is starting a new venture at the crossroads of design research and education (at the same address).
— After an intensive year Dimitri will enjoy every second of his beautiful life before turning into stardust unfortunately sooner than expected.
We would like to thank everyone who played a role in making LUST and LUSTlab such a beautiful place. We have been able to create many amazing projects with great clients and collaborators that will continue to live on in our minds.
And lastly, we want to proudly announce the news that LUST has been awarded the BNO Piet Zwart Prize 2017, an extraordinary award for the oeuvre of a designer in the design disciplines wherein Piet Zwart practiced. Next to the award ceremony on October 28 during the Dutch Design Awards in Eindhoven and the related mini-exhibition, we will organise a one-day symposium in November as a sparkling farewell-design-concert.
“In the end, there is only a black square.”
Abuse wisely,
Thomas, Jeroen, Dimitri
